Wednesday, September 08, 2004 ::: third day of school a morbid state of obligation fulfillment is the grass greener on the other side? first day. it was walking into friends. some looks. some welcome. some chat. i got back on track. amazing. then i sensed - danger. senses working over time one two three four five 3 was not a large number but big enough to make a day mundane enough an apology. heartfelt sincere awareness of a mistake. put myself in others' shoes that's just a little reminder for myself and i did my part day 2. typical morning blues. school was dumb. luckily there's more to life - an afternoon gathering with friends a night swim energy dissipated a small dose of endorphins was all I need and it worked finally a peaceful night third day. some normal lecture at main campus the console of some familiarity the illusion of everything being nice and in place but what's real? and it's only wednesday. saw a minibus after another - packed with men in tracksuits oh those gold medal heroes China's sweet hearts people waving the bright red HK flag running up the hill in CUHK what a sight a great follow up to last night's 'spectacular' i really respect them as athletes because they obviously gave their all to their country but all in a sudden they fell in a wrong category: crowd entertaining clowns singing off key on stage i really wish they could just do their part and save us some torture "their Chinese courage their Chinese sportsmanship their Chinese perseverance" the MCs just can't do without the word 'Chinese' and they refer every single quality they exhibit as a Chinese quality well, I see courage as courage but nothing as courage with a nationality label. and i've never seen such thing as 'British courage' or perhaps 'Tahitian courage' maybe 'American' is a word mentioned frequent enough but i've never heard something close to 'American courage' either i respect the athletes. it's just the pretentious show i detest. echo. echo. echo. echo all the way to Beijing. ::: posted by Wings at 9/08/2004 03:40:00 AM
